Hamburg has always been modest about itself - it’s not the kind of city that shouts too loudly about the various treasures it holds. That’s why it’s always a pleasure when a new chapter of the Hamburg Elektronisch series lands - finally the city’s underground scene allows itself a little moment in the limelight. The compilations already released under Hamburg Elektronisch have portrayed a city rich in creativity and diversity, showcasing some of the most exciting artists active in electronic music today - wherever the location. Therefore the series has now been formed into a label. This first EP on the Hamburg Elektronisch label doesn’t disappoint - four killer tracks from the city’s depths.
Local heroes Deo & Z-man join forces with tastemaker supreme and PAL resident Marc Schneider on ‘All The Animals’ to deliver a heads down club jam - sparking production adding a glossy sheen to a dirty groove.
Next up is Oskar - a young talent born in Hamburg and raised in the club, PAL resident as well - diving directly into the vibey house track ‘A12’, with its raw drums and atmospheric synth melody.
Neal White is no stranger to the scene - he’s been releasing on labels like Eintakt, Eminor, Werkstoff and Kammer. His track ‘Puh’ is more of the good stuff - electro-inspired new wave vibes coupled with club-destroying grooves.
Last up is Rupert Marnie, (a.k.a Matthias Schubert) who moved to Hamburg in 2013 and founded the label The Press Group. Here he brings his signature slice of deep, emotional house music that sums up Hamburg’s vibe nicely - understated yet extremely happening.
